By 1Billionaire.com: Coinbase, one of the leading crypto currency exchanges, was reported to be the target of hackers due to a vulnerability in Firefox. The stock market, which detected the attack attempt, acted quickly and prevented it.
The Block’s ZDNet quotes the Crypto Exchange Coinbase as the target of hackers on Monday due to a security vulnerability in Firefox.
Attackers are believed to be exploiting the zero-day vulnerability discovered in Firefox to hack Coinbase employees with an attack technique called spear-phishing.
“If they had succeeded, a hacker could have access to Coinbase’s background network and use it to steal crypto money from the stock market – a tactic that has been used many times in the past and has caused huge losses in many crypto money exchanges before.”
Philip Martin, Coinbase’s security director, said in a statement on the issue that they did not find any attempt to target customers. Martin added that the crypto-money-related companies are also targeted by this group.
Meanwhile, Mozilla released new versions of Firefox 67.0.3 and Firefox ESR 60.7.1 on Tuesday to correct the error. Firefox users using older versions need to update their browser to these versions.
